Stefano
Why did we choose this? Well we’re into social networks – and dating sites are “monetisable social networks”… ie it allows us to start with a social network that will sustain itself and pay for its way
Flirtaroo is a mobile specific dating site, with a website as an extension. At least this is how it started. Flirtaroo was born as a mobile dating service, however, as development progressed, we realised the need to port this from mobile to web. Been an interesting experience building the mobile site first and then desktop website second – usually its the other way round. The current website allows users to merely update their profile and add photos to their photo album (as this is one of the restrictions of most mobile browsers) however, the launch of the full featured web service will see the exact functionality of the mobile service ported to the web.
You can access Flirtaroo on your mobile phone and start meeting new people anytime at flirtaroo.mobi or by SMSing FLIRT to 32424
As I mentioned, Flirtaroo is a Freemium service, what this means is that the service is effectively free to use, however, there are few premium feature which users will be charged for in virtual currency. Virtual currency is allocated to a user when he/she sends a premium rated SMS.
Further to the fact that Flirtaroo is a flirting service, we have built it in such a way that it is easy to roll out to white label partners. Partners will be able to have their very own flirting service branded according to their needs, all freemium prices can be changed by our partners and databases can either be isolated or pooled with all other ‘instances’ of the flirting service.
Apart from the above awesomeness, Flirtaroo also boasts quite a few locative features as well as WAP chat. Yes, a WAP service with LBS! Locative services are built into search our search function, appropriately dubbed: ‘Near Me’ search. Near Me search will display users that match your criteria and your current location. Cool. WAP chat enables users to chat to each other in real-time, over a WAP session (i’m waiting for the comments).
Here is a list of the current premium features of Flirtaroo:
- WAP Chat
- Send Gifts
- Locative search
- See who rated you
- SMS Alerts
- Get your profile featured
Future release of Flirtaroo
So, that’s what you can expect of Flirtaroo in round 1, however, that’s not where it ends. Currently, we are working on improving locative functionality to make the network a lot more locative aware and tie in your location as many functions as ‘humanly’ possible.
As previously mentioned, the web-version will be fully-fledged and will become a feature rich mirror of the mobile network.
Another awesome feature we are currently working on integrating is Video via Webcams so that our web-users will be able to not only IM each other, but also get to visually chat to their admirers
We are also looking at integrating credit card billing so that this can breach the borders of South Africa and become an internationally recognised platform.
That pretty much sums up what Flirtaroo is all about, head over to Flirtaroo.mobi and check it out for yourself.

Well done, looks set to rock.
Awesome if this platform could also be available in different local languages?
Peace out.
Shot for the love bucks.
If I wasn’t married to a spunky babe and be blessed with 2 gorgeous offspring I could see a definite use for this.

Awesome release. I digg that it’s on the mobile platform, this is great for teens who access the web via mobile.
P.S. Stefano looks like he’s got swine flu in his profile

Congrats. Sounds like a service with great potential, in many markets.
Now, all we need to do is get SA mobile charges down from the current eye-watering levels…

Francois, the bigger problem probably lies with the share that operators take of premium rate SMS’s. Currently stand on approximately 50%. In Japan, this number is never above 10%. *shock* *horror*

… that, too. Though, I’m still smarting from a recent one-day MTN 3G data bill of R770 - a rude awakening that I wasn’t in the UK anymore where T-Mobile charges me £15 per month for pretty much unlimited 3G use ["pretty much" because I've never had any push-back from them].
I’m thinking of getting a ‘Go, Patricia, Go!’-button.
