Flirtaroo: The after effects

So! Flirtaroo has been live for 3 months and it’s been doing super swell! Definitely a good uptake, for a dating site at least. As most of you know, Flirtaroo was supposed to be a mobile site only at first, we then decided to add a web component which would allow users to simply update their profiles, but not interact with other users. This idea lasted for all of a week (I stand under correction Matt), at which point we decided to build a fully functional website that would give users the same experience as on the mobile site as well as additional features.
The new website now pretty damn cool! Still based on the same revenue model, however, we are introducing Credit Card payments in November and also Video Chat as a premium feature. I reckon Video chat will be a nifty little addition.
Other things being added to the new Flirtaroo (both web and mobile) are:
- Credit Card payments / international billing
- Video
- Activity feeds
- Profile recommendation
- Image cropping
- Improved location features
- Additional Gifts
I find that Activity feeds are the main source of population exploration on a social network, which is quite an important act on dating sites. So the Activity feed will be relatively basic at first, but it will expand and become more intuitive the more Flirtaroo grows up and becomes an adult with lots of bibs and bobs.
A lot of time has also been spent expanding the back-end. Seeing as Flirtaroo is a White Label service as well, we had to do a lot work to support this vital role and if I must say so myself it’s a pretty decent system!

Interesting, this seems to be an almost identical copy of Flirtopia, a mobile dating site that launched about a year ago.

Not really Michael. We looked at quite a few sites, took the best features and also added our own. We were surprised at how similar all the sites were — very little originality.
If anything — we were inspired by Flirtomatic, a brilliant implementation in the UK. We didn’t really look at anything locally.
Flirtaroo’s cross platform approach (web+mobile) and specific micropayments model we think is unique. Video chat (coming soon!) is also pretty unique!
