Time and attention are both scarce commodities in this day and age, add to that the surplus of information both valuable and useless being flung at us from all directions and one may feel inclined to hide under the sheets in the morning and peep nervously at the flood of data lapping at your door

Dave Duarte hit the nail on the head in his article Dealing with my attention crisis, where he said

“As the amount of new information produced in the world every day escalates, so I find my attention span decreasing in equal and opposite proportion.”

My solution to this is creating filters. You can save hours every day navigating through information much as one navigates through a grocery shop…
With no list you stroll aimlessly from aisle to aisle easily distracted by sales and specials and yummy smells. But draw up a list to take with and you are focused and move directly and quickly from item to item searching out only what’s on the list and blinding yourself to the countless attention hooks surrounding you

The result, without a list your trolley is full but it is inevitable that when you get home you will have forgotten something, and you will probably get home late. WITH a list you will have all the ingredients you need and be home in plenty of time to mix a cocktail and chill before making exactly the meal you had planned.

Don’t get me wrong… you cannot live your entire life by a list – too many opportunities and new flavors will be missed out on, your world will never expand beyond your known listed items and you will never get lost in the chocolate isle where you may discover a new lindt filling!
But on a day to day basis we would be lost without some direction and focus and shopping lists!

I use my custom homepage as my daily shopping list. It gives me the latest updates on all those ingredients I need to make up a creative and productive day… news headlines, latest tech, blog updates and of course my task lists and social media contacts as well as widgets - coded to a universal standard so that you can use them within your blogs as well.

I no longer have to open up a tab for twitter, one for facebook and one for the news – with a custom HP all that info is in front of me on one page in a format easy to read and engage with.

Soon a local custom homepage will be available to you as well!

The 24.com custom page will go one step further, whatever content you select to view from your web page which is in a format accessible to your mobile will also be available on a 24.mobi site. So you no longer even have to be at your computer to see all your updates. This means 24.com will have localized content available to you from web and mobile. You will also have access to interactive and useful widgets and tools which will help you save even more time!
So hang in there for the launch of YOUR new custom homepage - you choose what sites you want to pull content from, how much content to see from that site and which device you would like to view your selected content from… your very own intellectual shopping list!
