Following on the success of Afridoctor winning the Nokia innovations competition, the labrats have done some planning to take the application to the next level.
Below is an edited version (for we cannot reveal all :)) of a powerpoint presentation, by myself and Blueworld’s Bradley Voges, which describes our future strategy. The original idea for Afridoctor came from wizz-kid Werner Erasmus — his idea beating 12 others in an “ideas” competition we had internally in 20FourLabs.

Last month at the Mobile Web Africa conference, Brett Loubser (Samsung Electronics SA product technical and support manager) did a presentation entitled: “Mobile Internet - The African Status. Device availability and Technology Considerations.”
In it he spoke about Open Mobile operating systems - such as Android and LiMo (Linux Mobile) as being key drivers for growth and innovation in Africa.

Local HTC distributor Leaf International Communications have confirmed that the Android App Market will soon be available in South Africa.
Up to now the Android Market has not been available on the first two Android-powered handsets to hit South Africa – the HTC Dream (on MTN) and the HTC Magic (on Vodacom) – much to the frustration of local Android handset owners and Android app developers alike.
